THE SECOND 500 KM FINAL — A DIFFERENT STORY

15 September 2026 | 501 KM

After the demanding first 500 km final, we deliberately chose a completely different day for the second final: less wind, temperatures around 24°C, and more moderate conditions.

The goal was clear — give the pigeons another 500 km challenge under very different circumstances.

501 KM — CLOSE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING

Released from Barabás at 7:00 AM, the pigeons again showed a remarkable flight pattern. As in the previous 500 km final, GPS tracking showed the birds initially taking the correct general direction before flying north of the theoretical line. The exact reason for this unusual route remains unexplained.

At the loft, the finish was incredibly close.

Gert Rotman took the victory with 1,273.26 m/min, only 6.8 seconds ahead of Jort Batenburg.

Jort Batenburg produced an exceptional result, placing two pigeons in the Top 3.

The first six pigeons arrived within just a few minutes, underlining how tight the competition was.

FANCIER OF THE RACE

The team competition produced a different winner.

Irving van Oss (B) took Fancier of the Race, with his two scoring pigeons recording a combined time of 13:35:12.573.

The AviRings Derby PRO 2026 championship is now showing exactly what makes long-distance competition so fascinating: the same distance can produce completely different races.
